Having completed a hugely successful year in 2010 with some outstanding events across Europe, North & South America, Recoil’s ‘Selected Events’ tour returns this year with some additional performances across Europe.

Now, Alan is bringing the updated version of ‘A Strange Hour’ once again to several new European cities. If you missed the presentations last time out, now is your chance to catch up, with perhaps one or two further changes and definitely some special guests.

As usual, Alan should also be available for meet & greet signing sessions after the performances at each event.

After the BTTP festival in Manchester with Gary Numan & Motor, the new shows continue on in Vilnius, Lithuania at Forum Palace on Tuesday 10th May and in Ventspils, Latvia at The Centre of Performing Arts – “Juras Varti” on Wednesday 11th May.

Says Alan: “Last year was a lot of fun and very different for me to be out on the road so much. Even so, there were places which we never got to for one reason or another and now we have a chance to fill in those gaps, which is why I’m delighted to add a few more events. We have the unusual Mute night to prepare for (with maybe a surprise or two) and then these extra dates in cities I have never visited before. I’m very excited to be visiting both Lithuania and Latvia. We also hope to add some more events over the coming weeks.”

The German electronic label Raster-Noton have confirmed a line up for the opening night of 2011’s Short Circuit – Thursday 12th May – and a specially created sound piece will link the Raster-Noton and Mute events. The Raster-Noton / Mute Sound Halo will consist of sound loops created by artists from both labels and will play overnight from 12th May to link the two events.

The line up for Raster-Noton’s event features the premiere of Ryuichi Sakamoto and Alva Noto’s new piece, plus performances from Anne James Chaton, Grischa Lichtenberger, Atom TM, Byetone and Mark Fell (snd). Tickets are onsale from today.

For the very final presentation of ‘A Strange Hour’, Alan and the Recoil team have decided to install an extra large, fully professional cinema screen & projector at the newly-renovated venue ‘Szikra’ in Budapest. The screen will measure a giant 8 x 5 meters and will cover the entire stage area. The performance is also planned to be filmed using multi-cameras and the latest high-definition technology in order to capture the event in its full glory. How and when ‘A Strange Hour’ will be released is yet to be determined but you can be sure that at some stage, you will see the culmination of a year’s work made available on some kind of DVD/Blu-ray format, perhaps as part documentary or maybe as a concert film.

There are still a few tickets available for this final show on Saturday – if you’re nearby and the snow doesn’t get you, try to come along and be a part of this unique one-off spectacle. We expect ‘A Strange Hour’ to look and sound particularly special on this evening.

Mátyás Milkovics from Hungarian band Neo will also be joining the event to play an acoustic set, and later Alan, Paul and the whole team will be around to celebrate the end of the tour with the fans, and there will various DJs keeping the evening going until late. DO NOT miss this one!

A message from Alan: “It’s been an incredible year with many many ups and only a couple of minor ‘downs’ due to some travel chaos. Without fail, audiences have been warm and appreciative everywhere. To get out there again and put so many faces to names has been a real highlight – much more enjoyable than I could ever have imagined. Thank you so much for all the encouragement and good vibes – it’s been emotional. Let’s hope we can do it again soon.”

Message from Alan :

Thank you to everyone who has attended the events over this last year. The Shunt team have all really enjoyed the excitement & great feedback from fans all over the world.

Don’t miss the very last two shows of Recoil’s ‘Selected Events 2010′ tour coming up next weekend. We nearly missed a show ourselves on Monday when snow hit the roads hard and extended what should have been a quick drive from Berlin to Warsaw into a 14-hour marathon! Alan and the team eventually crawled in at 10pm, set up the gear without a soundcheck in front of a good-natured and expectant crowd, and then proceeded to perform immediately with (luckily) only a few minor hitches. We’re happy to say that those who braved minus 10 degrees to come out were rewarded & warmed by the end of the night, with everyone trudging home happily in the snow at around 3am.

In the light of this early Eastern European freeze, Recoil will be arriving in Bratislava & Budapest with plenty of time to spare in order to fulfil the very last two engagements, followed by a party in Prague to celebrate what has been a fantastic year presenting ‘A Strange Hour’ in all corners of the globe. There are still a few tickets available so try to make it along. In Bratislava, we will be joined by special guests The Autumnist – brainchild of Vlado Durajka.

Recoil, live in Berlin

Due to demand, another event has been added to the final Euro leg of Recoil’s ‘Selected Events’ tour. Poland has been asking for another show for some time now following the great evening back in April in Lodz. This time, ‘A Strange Hour’ will be presented in Warsaw at Progresja on 29th November.

Architect will also be appearing on the bill.

Says Alan: “The presentation has been updated since the last time we played in Poland. We added some new films and mashed up Recoil/DM versions for the US and South American leg which have gone down really well. Daniel Myer has also been slipping in some glitched up, Myer-style DM and Nitzer Ebb beats into his live set. You never quite know what he is going to come up with each night!”

Due to reasons which were completely out of our control, the Cordoba event in Argentina was unable to go ahead yesterday. Rumour has it that the local promoters failed to get the proper permissions from local authourites to clear the event in advance, and the police turned up to shut it down before it even got underway. The engagement was due to be held as a mini festival including three separate tents in an outdoor location. Recoil was scheduled to headline in the main tent. Our crew arrived in Cordoba in plenty of time but got word that the show was experiencing difficulties at 10pm when we were still waiting to set up our projection system and conduct a soundcheck. 2000-3000 people were expected to attend and we don’t have information at this time about how refunds will be handled.

Says Alan: “I’m sure the fog will clear over the next days and we will get a full explanation of what happened. I just hope no fans will hold Recoil responsible in any way because we were in Cordoba and ready to play. I had already held a press conference in anticipation at the hotel in town, and we all sat in the lobby waiting to go to the venue when we heard the news that the show was in trouble. The crowds so far in Santiago, Buenos Aires and Rosario have been nothing short of incredible. It has been so uplifting to perform to such enthusiastic and appreciative people and Paul & I are naturally very disappointed to not be able to fulfil the Cordoba date. It is not altogether surprising that something like this might happen along the way – whatever people may think, South American countries do have a reputation for chaos and we have experienced plenty of that so far on this leg, including wasted appointments at embassies, travel delays, lost baggage, road strikes, corrupt authorities, equipment troubles and so on. I try to rise above it and am mainly philosophical because the warmth of the people makes up for the misgivings of the bureaucracy. I am just saddened that, having come so far and after 25 years, we got so close and yet so far away from playing to the fans that bought the tickets. If something can be rearranged, then it will be done. Our sincere apologies to the Cordobans.”

We know it’s a different country but there are still a few tickets left for the next event in São Paulo at Inferno Club on November 10th – we are really looking forward to visiting Brazil (assuming they let us in!).
